Who We Are
EWB-ND is a social services club on campus at the University of Notre Dame. Founded in the Fall of 2011, the club is affiliated with the international organization Engineers Without Borders and is officially a student chapter member of Engineers Without Borders-USA.
The club's faculty advisor, Melissa Berke, is part of the Department of Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences. Our professional mentor, Rod Beadle, is the executive director of Engineers In Action and an experienced member of EWB-USA.
Nearly 300 students signed up to get involved in EWB-ND. We are looking to grow even more as the club adopts more projects.
What We Do
In accordance with the mission of Engineers Without Borders-USA, EWB-ND strives to bring necessary changes to international communities in order to improve the quality of living. EWB-ND works with the community to implement and maintain the given project. To learn more about what an Engineers Without Borders project entails, check out the EWB-USA Projects webpage.
Currently, EWB-ND is working on the implementation phase of its second international project, the Ecuador School Project. The mission of the project is to provide clean water and safe structures to the schools in San Pedro de Suma, Ecuador, and in doing so to help improve their quality of life and ability to progress as a whole.
Why We Do It
A great part of Notre Dame history is the University's commitment to service and community relations. These relations extend well beyond the city of South Bend to international communities. The members of EWB-ND come from many different majors, but all are passionate about helping other people. EWB-ND provides a platform for students to apply their education towards helping others by means of tangible projects.
