Local Projects
Due to the rapid growth of our Engineers Without Borders community as well as the novel coronavirus pandemic, we began working on engineering projects with the South Bend government this year. Specifically, we wanted to work with and find a way to give back to the South Bend residents and families. In order to help these residents, we worked with officials from the city’s municipal government to identify and solve a problem within the community. The problem that we found was that many residents within the community were either unaware of or unconcerned with the city’s stormwater taxes. As a result, many residents and families were unnecessarily spending money on these taxes, consequently
As a local project team, we developed a page on the South Bend government website that helps residents assess options to reduce stormwater runoff taxes and create a more green environment within the SB community. Currently, the local projects team is planning their projects for next school year which may include constructing a greenhouse for the city of South Bend. We are excited to see how this new pursuit can benefit the local community and provide our members with fulfilling work.
